Julia Goldsworthy MP

Julia Goldsworthy was elected as the MP for Falmouth and Camborne in 2005. She is the Lib Dems’ Parliamentary candidate for the new seat of Camborne and Redruth.
Julia first entered Parliament after the 2005 general election, taking the seat from Labour with a 9.5% swing. In March 2006 Julia joined the Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury.
She is now the Lib Dems’ Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government and chair of the All Party rowing group in Westminster.
In Camborne and Redruth Julia has been vocal in active on a wide range of important local issues.
Along with Cornwall’s other four Lib Dem MPs, she negotiated an extra £94m per year for local NHS services in the county. This was a massive breakthrough after decades of underfunding.
In 2009, Julia successfully campaigned against the closure of Close Hill Post Office in Redruth, and campaigned to stop the Government from closing six other post offices in Falmouth, Budock Water, Carharrack and Pool.
With Matthew Taylor MP she helped to secure funding for a passing loop on the Falmouth to Truro branch line – doubling the number of trains between the two towns. Julia also successfully campaigned to keep Redruth Tax Office open – safeguarding 50 high quality jobs – and supported the campaign to retain 24-hour fire cover in Falmouth and Camborne.
Julia successfully campaigned for a cut in water bills in Cornwall – the first since privatisation under the Conservatives. She continues to campaign for fairer water bills locally. She believes that it is unfair that Cornish people should be expected to pay for the maintenance of one third of the country’s coastline – when Cornwall’s beaches are free to be enjoyed be all.
